If you found yourself wondering about the water quality at our local beaches this Summer...you weren't alone...results from a poll done by Corporate Research Associates show that 64 % of Metro Moncton residents are very concerned about the water situation in Shediac Bay. Shediac Mayor Jacques Leblanc says he's not surprised...he tells the Times & Transcript that "We're all concerned" but that he's "very optimistic" that the things the Province is doing to try and fix the problems will help in time for next year's beach season. Parlee Beach traffic was way down this Summer...just over 17,000 entrance passes were sold in June, July & August...that's down more than 26% over last year!
The City of Moncton is telling people not to panic after a black bear cub was spotted in the Irishtown Nature Park 9 days ago. Suzanne Gregoire tells the Times & Transcript that she was walking on the Bouctouche Line Trail on August 28th near the bridge when she saw the bear cub. She says they "looked at each other for a while"...and she took a picture. The City says that they're getting advice from the Province and some National Park officials and a spokesperson says "there's no need to be alarmed."
