Sears Canada Inc. is applying for court approval to liquidate all of its remaining stores and assets after failing to find a buyer that would allow it to continue in business. The company wants to start the liquidation sales no later than Oct. 19 and expects them to continue for 10 to 14 weeks. Here in New Brunswick there are two stores...one here in Moncton and one in Fredericton...with about 200 employees between them...and there are almost 400 employees at two contact centres in Edmundston and Saint John that will be laid off as well.

We're all getting new licences. The province unveiled new cards yesterday that have "enhanced security features" that make them more durable and tamper resistant...#unforgeable. It also seems like it's going to be a little more complicated to get them...when you apply for a licence or renew it you get a temporary document first...then the new fancy high tech one gets mailed out to you within a couple of weeks. Sounds like it might be more expensive too (they didn't say that...but it only stands to reason right? >Tony) You won't have to upgrade until your current licence expires.

The Orkin pest control company is out with a list of the rattiest cities in Atlantic Canada...places with the most..uh...rats. Moncton is 4th on the list...and Saint John is third. St. John's Newfoundland is the capital of rat land and Halifax is the second rattiest. Fredericton was 14th. Here in Moncton residents in the Evergreen area have been dealing with giant rat problems that the city, so far anyway, says they're not responsible for. Orkin says that it's this time of year that is considered "peak rat season" because they're trying to find warm places to live for the winter. They suggest sealing up any cracks or gaps in your home larger than a centimetre...and put your garbage out day of instead of night before.
